For many adults, making the transition to a new home later in life can be overwhelming. There's the prospect of moving for the first time in many years, or of downsizing a lifetime of possessions. The organization and physical tasks associated with planning and implementing such a move can be extremely stressful and complicated.


Our Services

Planning and Preparation
SteppingStones will meet with you to determine your specific downsizing and relocation needs. We will create a comprehensive, customized relocation plan. You may choose the services you require from the list below.

  • In-home consultation and walk-through
  • Information about appropriate housing options
  • Written relocation or downsizing plan and timetable
  • Visit current and new residence
  • Create customized floor plans for the new space
  • Help you determine furniture selections based on new home floor
  • We work with clients to sort through all the memories and treasures to help determine how best to organize, pack and downsize
  • Oversee packing all belongings to be moved with exceptional care
  • We will then establish most profitable method to sell or dispose of unwanted items, through auction, online services, estate sales, private collectors etc.
  • Coordinate donations of remaining items to charities in your name for possible tax receipts, or shipping to loved ones
Managing Moving Day
SteppingStones' understands the emotional and physical stress of moving. We coordinate every detail to ensure your move is a stress-free and positive as possible, including making sure the movers treat your possessions and your new home with respect.

  • Obtain estimates from reliable movers and cleaners, as required
  • Coordinate move-in at your new residence; booking elevator, and ensuring new residence has all information required for a smooth transition for client.
  • Oversee packing and loading at current home
  • Manage unloading and memory placement of furniture and belongings, arranging the new home in a similar fashion
  • Arrange for transportation of client and pets if required
  • Transport medical equipment as required
  • Removal of moving supplies
Move-in Services
SteppingStones is committed to ensuring clients are settled into their new home before we leave. We carefully unpack and set up the new home in a way that's as close to your previous one as possible. We look after all the details, including picture hanging, mailing labels and setting clocks.

  • Unpacking all belongings
  • Breaking down all boxes and packaging materials
  • Organizing and putting away all items in kitchen, bathroom, cabinets, closets
  • Hanging artwork, arranging lighting, shelving books and collections
  • Making beds, setting clocks
  • Attractively decorating your new home
  • Purchasing new items and furniture, if required
  • Transferring/cancelling utilities and related services
  • Setting up your home and amenities for immediate use
  • Handling change of address notices
  • Providing information on your new neighborhood:
  • Providing maps, directions to grocery stores, drug stores etc
Estate Support Services
SteppingStones assists families, executor(s) and lawyers fulfil their responsibilities by professionally organizing and coordinating the disposition of personal and household items.

  • Manage the downsizing and/or disposition of personal and household property
  • Refer and coordinate outside services such as realtors, appraisers, auctioneers, and cleaners.
  • Prepare the house for a profitable sale, arranging for minor repairs if required
  • Source and overseeing the packing and shipping of items designated to the heirs
Additional Services
SteppingStones' performs a variety of additional services for clients, some related to relocation and some that are not. Be sure to ask us if there is something you require not listed on the site. Some of our additional services include:

  • Repair or improvement of your vacated home, which may increase optimum return if sold or leased
  • Redesign and home staging advice to help ready your home for sale
  • Storage of furnishings or other possessions
  • Arrange for the cleaning of the old and new home
  • Arrange for evaluations of antiques and collectables
  • Quickly facilitate emergency or short-notice moves from a hospital or nursing home to new living situations
  • Aging in Place Services: Down-sizing/right-sizing, de-cluttering, and reorganization of furnishings for easier access. Coordinating accessibility options: arranging for bath and shower grab bars, access ramps, automatic lighting, lever door handles, lifts and more
  • Assist in implementing an emergency response system
  • Provide resources on home health care
  • If you're a seasonal resident and your move is temporary, we can help with the details. We will pack /unpack as needed, manage utilities hookup or disconnect, provide property oversight while you are out of town - we'll even clean out or stock the refrigerator!
